What is Good Morning Down?
Good Morning Down (GMD) is a free local telephone befriending charity in County Down, Northern Ireland for people who feel isolated, alone or vulnerable in the community.
We telephone GMD members on weekdays between 9:00 – 13:00 for a friendly chat and check-in. We also offer signposting to other community organisations and run ‘get together’ events for members.
If we cannot get through to a member, we try to contact them again later in the morning. If we still cannot get through, we contact a nominated person who can visit the member to make sure they are well.
Who benefits from the work of Good Morning Down?
Good Morning Down supports a wide variety of people in County Down, including (but not limited to) those who:

- Have a physical disability, or have been recently discharged from hospital and feel nervous or anxious.
- Have been recently bereaved and feel lonely or distressed.
- Have been a victim of crime, or have a real fear of crime and feel unsafe in their own home.
